Fun Stuff
Here are some links to help you plan a fun vacation here in San Diego. It's a great spot for a vacation, and July will have some terrific weather for sightseeing and beaching activities. There are also some other things to do that I don't have information for except for my own experience. Those things are:

  • Sea Kayaking (also a terrific place to snorkel...see sharks!! They won't bite, but, this beach just happens to be their breeding ground)
  • Least populated beach sites
  • Best place to rent and roller blade
  • Not-so-out-of-the-way out-of-the-way places to visit to get away from the tourist traps (Ocean Beach; Rosarita, Mexico; Julian forest; wineries)
  • All-you-can-eat seafood/brunch
  • Dinner Theatres
  • Gay bars...apologies to my straight friends, but I'm rather uneducated about those other places. But, if you are really interested, I will check with my contacts to find the best places for you to go.
And there you have it. Ask me when you arrive, or e-mail me and let me know what you're interested in and I will give you the scoop! (oh, and er uh, this is Jean aka Jeune) Have fun!!

The World Famous San Diego ZOO
We've been, and it takes about 4 hours to see and do everything there is. Try to stay away from the cockroach exhibit. It's pretty disgusting.

Seaworld
Also world-famous, this is another place that takes all day to get through. They put on some terrific shows....things you never knew fish could do! And, unless you scuba dive on a regular basis, this is the only place I know where you can pet a Sting Ray.

Balboa Park
The largest park in San Diego. It's not just a park anymore...all of our museums are located in this area including the Ruben H. Fleet Space center, which is our version of a planetarium. They show IMAX shows here too, so you're completely surrounded by the movie. Neat, see a movie laying down!

Horton Plaza
A mall for the shop-aholic. They have everything here! And if you like architecture, you'll have a great time in this place. Imagine being in one of MC Eschers drawings and you're at Horton. Planet Hollywood is also here, sometimes you can catch an actor/actress hangin' around.

Old Town
Old Town boasts some of San Diego's best Mexican restaurants this side of the border. It's your basic tourist trap and I'd only reccommend going if you are hungry. Parking is pretty bad, and the stores aren't that interesting, but you can say you've been there.

Speaking of Border, did you know that Tijuana, Mexico, is only 20 minutes away? Yep, you can say you've been to Mexico! The trolley will take you to the border, and it's a short 7 minute walk into the city from there. Lots of bars (the Tequila is dirt cheap). Lots of stuff to buy....also very cheap. All you need is a driver's license and an American accent and you're good to go! Ahh, the Tijuana stories I could tell....but I won't because there are those of you reading this who have sworn me to secrecy (wink) you know who you are.

Here are two sites that will give you an overall scoop on activities and entertainment going on in SD. You should visit these sites closer to the time of your arrival to get the most up-to-date info. We have all the musicals, play, operas, concerts, and other events you'd ever want to visit during the summer.
